At Make Bold Choices, we believe in making impactful decisions—whether they’re about personal growth, fitness, or giving back to the community. This year, we took that spirit to new heights by organizing a 24-hour run to raise funds and awareness for Movember, the global initiative that aims to change the face of men’s health. With an incredible outpouring of support, we raised £400 and achieved something extraordinary together.
It all started with a simple yet ambitious idea: to run for 24 hours straight in support of Movember. And while the goal was to raise funds, we also wanted to highlight the power of community and collaboration. We invited runners of all abilities to take part, with each person contributing in their own unique way. Some participants ran 10k, others took on half marathons, and one incredible individual ran a staggering 100km during the 24-hour event. But the true magic of this run wasn’t just in the individual achievements; it was in how we all came together to make it happen.
What truly made this event special was the sense of community that permeated the entire 24 hours. It wasn’t just about the distance we covered, but about the people who showed up, both physically and emotionally, to support the cause. Whether it was joining for a short 5k run, cheering on others from the sidelines, or helping with logistics, everyone played an essential part in the event’s success. The runners themselves demonstrated incredible resilience, pushing through tiredness, sore muscles, and the mental challenges of running through the night. But it was the support and encouragement from fellow participants that kept everyone going. When someone felt they couldn’t take another step, there was always someone ready to cheer them on, share a joke, or offer a word of encouragement. The sense of camaraderie was palpable. It wasn’t just about running; it was about being part of something larger than ourselves and knowing that every step we took was helping to make a difference in men’s health.
We couldn’t have pulled off this event without the support of the fantastic team at Salt Ayre Leisure Centre. The venue was the perfect place for this challenge, offering ample space for runners to come and go as they pleased throughout the 24-hour period. Salt Ayre’s facilities provided the perfect mix of comfort and practicality, ensuring that runners had access to water, food, and anything else they required. The team at Salt Ayre went above and beyond to support the event, offering their resources and staff to help us set up, manage the flow of participants, and keep everything running smoothly. Their flexibility and commitment to supporting our cause helped bring the entire event to life. For that, we are truly grateful.
As the organizer of the event, I took it upon myself to lead by example and tackle the challenge head-on. Over the course of 24 hours, I ran a total of 164km, pushing my body to its limits and testing my endurance. There were highs and lows throughout the run—moments when my legs felt like lead, and times when I doubted whether I could keep going. But knowing that I wasn’t alone, that the community was there with me, made all the difference. At the end of the 24 hours, crossing that finish line was one of the most rewarding moments I’ve ever experienced. Not only had we raised £400 for Movember, but we had also built something powerful: a community of people who came together to support a cause that affects us all. It was a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the power of collective effort. The Impact: £400 Raised for Men’s Health Thanks to the generous donations of our participants, supporters, and sponsors, we raised an impressive £400 for Movember. This money will go directly towards funding men’s health initiatives, including mental health support, cancer research, and initiatives aimed at reducing male suicide rates. Every penny counts, and knowing that our efforts will help save lives made the entire 24-hour run worth it.
The 24-hour run for Movember was more than just an event—it was a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we come together as a community. We showed that bold choices are not just about personal achievements, but about supporting one another and making a difference in the world around us. As we look forward, Make Bold Choices will continue to lead by example, encouraging people to make bold decisions in all areas of life. We’ll keep pushing boundaries, raising awareness for important causes, and building stronger, more resilient communities. Thank you to everyone who participated, supported, and helped make this event a success. We couldn’t have done it without you. Here’s to the next bold challenge!
